Felt Club Round 4: Now with Ice Cream!!
Big news, y'all!

Our next event happens August 12, and we're happy to announce that Felt Club will be participating in the YarisWorks road tour. If you haven't heard about it yet, YarisWorks is a cross-country DIY-themed roadtrip sponsored by Toyota, to promote their cute new fuel-efficient car the (duh) Yaris. They will be throwing 3 crafty how-to days in each city they visit. Their Los Angeles visit will culminate at Felt Club on August 12 and we are psyched!

The whole tour is organized in conjunction with the peeps at Venus magazine and BuyOlympia, who are all super folks. They will be helping us do even more promotion than usual for our crafty event, which will directly benefit our vendors and visitors—plus we get to add these two amazing attractions to the August event:

WORKSHOPS! Toyota is helping us pull off THREE hour-long craft classes inside Meltdown (where Felt Club is held) at various times throughout the day! So, visitors can learn to hand-spin yarn, do needle felting, etc. We are curating these classes ourselves and can’t wait to give you more details about them. The teachers are Jamie from Mary Jane's Attic and Silvia from Chebang!. We're so happy that Felt Club will now have a hands-on element we couldn’t previously offer. Fun, fun, fun!

COOL TREATS!
Our favorite thing about this whole development (cuz we're totally immature) is that YarisWorks is providing an on-site ice cream truck distributing free treats! The guys from West Coast Choppers (ie: that dude Jesse James) pimped out a Yaris and turned it into a working ice cream truck. How great is that?! Between the ice-cold water and pop at the Felt Club Bake Shoppe and the free ice cream courtesy Yaris, vendors and visitors alike should find it easy to stay cool in that accursed August sunshine.

More details later...hope to see you there!

PS: There will also be a Yaris on-site in case anyone wants to take one for a test-spin!

Once, Twice...THREE Kinds of Ladies
Felt Club would like to welcome aboard THREE new sponsors: MyMy, The Sampler, and Sublime Stitching! All three are well-known pillars of the DIY community and we couldn't be happier to be working with them. Their help will enable Felt Club to keep kicking crafty ass for a long time to come, so please visit their websites and check them out for yourselves!

Taryn from MyMy created her site as a place to sell her own super-awesome zines and buttons. Over the last couple of years (My My just turned two!), it morphed into a consignment shop featuring nearly 50 of the greatest indie artists and zinesters from around the world. MyMy is the perfect one-stop-shop for all your crafty, gifty needs!

The Sampler is the brainchild of Marie, a crafty marketing genius beyond compare. Every month, countless artists and indie businesses send her product and promo samples to divvy up and re-package into mailorder "swag bags" or a sort—that's The Sampler! Subscriptions sell out super-fast and if you're lucky enough to score one, you know what's gonna show up on your doorstep. That's half the fun!

Jenny Hart near-singlehandedly turned the craft world on its ear with her intricate and unconventional embroidered portraits and transfer patterns. Her company, Sublime Stitching has spawned heaps of cute crafting kits and two gorgeous how-to books from Chronicle (#2 is out this fall!). Check out the Customer Gallery on her site to check out all the fun stuff people have made with her patterns.

Stay tuned for more info about these sponsors and the fun ways they will be helping out our event.

PS: Last day to apply for the August Felt Club is...today! Trust me, you won't wanna miss out on this one!!
Hot Fun in the City

Many thanks to all of you who came out on Saturday as visitors (and/or vendors!) of Felt Club! We know it was CRAZY hot outside, so you ROCK for hanging in there and toughing it out. It was a wacky weekend since a) It was a holiday week, b) The Lotus Festival was going on, and c) It was frigging HOT, but everyone seemed to have fun and that's the most important part. Many of our vendors reported that those who braved the sun were in a spendy mood—several said they made more money at this one than the last go-round. Guess you never can tell!

Anyway, I think the beach umbrellas we distributed helped somewhat since this time nobody seemed to get sunburned, while at the first event I came home looking like a Boston Baked Bean. But yeah...entirely too warm for this pasty-white Irish girl. Hope you all had fun regardless.

By the way, the pic above (taken by our fantabulous webmistress Linda) shows the cupcakes donated to Felt Club by previous vendor Cathy of California. They were a definite crowd favorite...I mean, just look at the hilarious felt cupcake toppers she made! All the Bake Shoppe contributions kicked major ass, and our hotsy-totsy volunteers Wendy and Helen kept everyone laughing with their witty (and often raunchy) banter. The cold drinks they doled out didn't hurt, either.

Felt Club will be back for Round #4 on August 12 and the deadline to apply is Wednesday, July 12. We have been suh-wamped with applications, some of our best potential vendors yet! The full list will be unveiled on Monday of next week. Please note that this will be our last outdoor show (and our last show at Meltdown). So please come help us go out with a bang!

(Oh and in case that last bit made it sound like Felt Club is ending in August...au contraire! We'll be right back in the saddle come September with a NEW schedule—Second Sundays—and a killer new venue. Full details in a bit!)
